Special Kicking Training
Precision Kicks, Powerful Results
Kicking is the signature and most diverse striking modality. The Special Kicking techniques range from foundational snaps to varying jump spins. Special Kicking in Taekwondo refers to the high-difficulty, often acrobatic kicks that go beyond the foundational techniques and are useful for showcasing speed, power and precision of the practitioner. These kicks are categorized by rotations, muti-attack sequences, and wall assisted launches.
They are practiced for demonstrations and competitive sparring. Mastering the Special Kicks are considered highly difficult that demands exceptional flexibility, balance and timing. Each move carries unique technical challenges and risk of injury if not practiced properly.
What are Special Kicking Techniques in Taekwondo?
Special kicking techniques are high difficulty techniques distinguished by jumps, spins or combinations that elevate the hip above the shoulder level and often involve mid-air rotations.
Special Kicking Technique involves following modalities:
- Airborne rotations: Spinning 360° and performing the kick.
- Multi-strike sequences: Striking kicks in a variety of heights in a single leap and sequences.
- Wall-assisted rebounds: Using surfaces like Wall etc., to gain support for extra height for performing techniques.
Although the technique is spectacular, these kicks require a high level of training and are often restricted in formal self-defense contests and tournaments for sporting and safety reasons.
Signature Special that you can learn from us
- 540 Kicks or also known as Tornado Kick: This technique involves a 360° spin in the air before delivering a heel strike with the same leg used for takeoff and landing.
- Multiple Side Kick Sequence: SideKick sequence features rapid side kicks at changing heights—typically starting from knee, torso and then to the head in one fluid motion.
- Twimyo Sambang Chagi (Jumping Three-directional Kick): Three directional kick or can also be called triple-attack kick. In this technique, the trainee launches himself or herself to the air, and executes a twisting front kick, immediately following with another side kick from the opposite leg and finishes with the roundhouse.
- Balsa Chagi (Reflex Kick): Reflex Kick is a type of wall-assist special kicking technique. The practitioner runs up a wall, pushes off with one foot in order to gain extra elevation and then extends another leg into mid-air kick.
- Dwi Huryeo Chagi (Spinning Hook Kick): Starts with the spinning hook which combines a full turn with a hook motion after pivoting 360°, the kicking leg extends sideways then sweeps backward, striking with heel.
- Twi-Myo Yeop Chagi (Flying Side Kick): After a running start or hop, the trainee is to leap in air turning the body away and delivering a heel strike backward before landing.
- Twi-Myo Dwi Chagi (Flying Back Kick): Similar to Twi-Myo Yeop Chagi, this move launches into the air but turns the body away, delivering a heel strike backward before landing.
